Metra and the Underpass

Beginning in March a new pedestrian grade crossing system will be activated at eight stations along the West line. Winfield is one of those stations. Aren’t we glad we have the pedestrian underpass? The building of the underpass took many years and for a while was very controversial. But why would the building of an underground underpass be controversial? There were people in Winfield who wanted the underpass NOW! They were insistent it be built at any cost. Never you mind that Winfield didn’t have the means to just build an underpass.

President Birutis, Trustees Glenn VadeBonCoeur and Joel Kunesh held out until the money could be provided from grants. They held out against great opposition, they stuck to their guns until the money was secured. And secured it was the and the underpass was built.
