Who is Winfield United?

The following examples are just some of W.U.’s contributions to our village over the last 4 years!

Has your family enjoyed the Children’s Petting Zoo, Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest or the “World Famous Minnow Races” at Winfield’s Good Old Days? These events were sponsored and paid for by Winfield United For A Better Community, with all profits donated to area charitable organizations such as Veterans Homeless Shelters and local food drives.

Did your child participate in planting and learning about perennial and prairie plants at District 34’s Winfield Elementary School? That whole project, the Outdoor Community Garden, which hundreds of Winfield residents drive by and admire every day, was made possible by W.U. volunteers. W.U. was instrumental in gaining state funding grants along with private donations to bring this educational experience to life.

Do you enjoy walking our clean prairie paths on the south side of town? Every year, cleaning up trash is a W.U project.

Have you and your children enjoyed a snow cone or bounced on the “Moon Walk” at the Criterium Bike Races? Or “Shot the Cannon” at the pirate ship during last years School District 34’s Parent Teachers Organization (PTO) fundraisers?

Have your children been thrilled and excited to come home and show you their very own Arbor Day tree? Or have you, yourself, participated in planting trees for our village’s future with trees supplied by W.U.’s non-profit yearly tree sale?

When organizations, local schools or the Village itself needs help, Winfield United’s volunteers have been counted on to keep pedestrians safe by directing traffic for the “Winfield Run” and the afore mentioned “Criterium” and “Good Old Days.” At the Creekside Park Gazebo, pulling weeds with the Winfield Garden Club has not been too much to ask of our organization. It also has been our pleasure to participate in the “Friend’s of the Library” book sale.

This is just a short description of what W.U. is all about. Winfield United volunteers not only “talk the talk,” but we really enjoy “walking the walk.” WE LOVE OUR TOWN!

One resident wrote, “Due to work and family constraints, I can’t spend as much time as I’d like with such a wonderful group of caring individuals. I just want you to know your efforts for our Village are appreciated, and it makes me, and I’m sure others, feel very good knowing you are there!”

Winfield United is always happy to add members to the W.U. family!
