Police Arrest Suspect in Area Robberies

On May 27, 2011, police officers from the Winfield, Wheaton, and Glen Ellyn Police Departments arrested a 35-year-old Jason A. McGee of the 600 block of Aurora Way in Wheaton, and he was charged with armed robbery in two separate incidents. The first incident occurred May 16, 2011 at Walgreens, 324 Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn, during which McGee is alleged to have obtained prescription drugs at knifepoint. The second incident occurred on May 23, 2011 at the CVS Pharmacy, 26W212 Geneva Road, Winfield, during which McGee is alleged to have obtained prescription drugs at gunpoint. Nobody was hurt in either incident.

Last week, Winfield Officers developed information leading them to McGee. Winfield Officers collaborated with Glen Ellyn Officers and, with assistance from Wheaton Police, McGee was taken into custody without incident on Friday afternoon. Both cases were reviewed with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office resulting in charges Friday afternoon. McGee was booked in Glen Ellyn and taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Members of the public are reminded that a criminal complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
